Facebook Promises To Finally Update Android App To New UI

Facebook for Android

UPDATE: The new Facebook for Android update is live, review will be coming soon.

Saying that the Facebook app has sucked for a while now would be an understatement. Facebook for Android has been notoriously famous for being a pretty terrible app, almost never delivering notifications on time, and offering a UI that is sub-par compared to other operation system’s applications. However, Facebook has promised to finally update their application to sport the new UI and we are currently waiting on the update. The Facebook Blog uploaded a post that stated all of the improvements, along with a “launching today” close on the post.

The first thing this update will improve on is faster photos. Facebook is claiming photos are 2X faster than previous versions, and now it’s easier to tag and do other nifty things in the app. Secondly, and most importantly, Facebook will update the app to sport the new UI that the iOS and mobile web versions have had for over a month. This means the menu that is above at the main menu will be consistent throughout the rest of the app, offering things like notifications and messages from any place in the app. The new side menu launching from the left will also be on board, and it will pull things nicely together as a new UI for Android users. There is supposed to be notification improvements and various bug fixes as well, and honestly, I’ll have to see it to believe it. There have been many occasions where Facebook launches an unstable update to their Android app, and hopefully this is not a trend they continue to follow. We will keep you updated, and once the update is available, post a review on the new and improved Facebook for Android.

20 Percent of Android-Based Apps Grant a Third-party Application Access to Private or Sensitive Information

COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time since its inception, Android based smartphones outsold iPhones in the first part of 2010. Consumers who purchase these smartphones are downloading millions of Android-based applications, and, according to a new SMobile Systems analysis of the Android market, putting their personal and professional data at risk.

SMobile System's Global Threat Center (http://threatcenter.smobilesystems.com/) has performed an in-depth analysis of over 48,000 applications currently available on the Android market and discovered the following threats:

  • 20 percent of applications in the Android market grant a third party application access to private or sensitive information that an attacker could use for malicious purposes, such as Identity Theft, mobile banking fraud and corporate espionage; 5 percent of applications have the ability to place a call to any number, without requiring user intervention;
  • Dozens of applications have the identical type of access to sensitive information as known spyware
  • 2 percent of market submissions can allow an application to send unknown premium SMS messages without user intervention.

"The Android operating system and the Android Market are quickly becoming the most widely used mobile platform and app store in the world. Nokia's Windows tablet to take on Apple's iPad

Nokia is to launch a tablet computer next year, making its first foray into a market which is dominated by Apple and has seen rival entrants lose millions.

The tablet will go to market in June and will run on Microsoft's yet to be released Windows 8 software, the director general of Nokia France let slip in an interview on Wednesday.

Previously, Nokia has said only that it is considering whether to launch a tablet. Paul Amsellem told French business publication Les Echos: "In June 2012, we will have a tablet running on Windows 8."

Microsoft has not confirmed when the next version of its Windows software is due for release, although it is expected in 2012. Windows 7 went on sale in 2009 and the company has promised to update the platform every three years.

Nokia hitched its fortunes to Windows after being left trailing in the smartphone race by Apple and manufacturers such as HTC and Samsung that use Google's Android operating system.

Microsoft is bent on making Windows Phone the third standard operating system for smartphones, alongside Android and Apple's iOS, and has reportedly paid Nokia more than $1bn to commit to using Windows Phone for its new range of smartphones, including the Lumia 800, which went on sale in Europe on Wednesday.

Tablet computer sales are expected to explode over the next four years, with analysts at Gartner predicting they will outsell PCs by 60% by 2015. However, tablets could go the way of MP3 players and remain a one-brand market. Apple's iron grip on tablet sales has seen the California company shift more than 40m units since launch in January 2010, 11m of them in its last quarter.

Rivals have barely made a dent. BlackBerry maker RIM had only shipped 700,000 of its PlayBooks at the last count, while Hewlett-Packard cancelled its TouchPad after just 48 days.

The Windows tablet would mark Nokia's first major foray into computers since the Booklet 3G, a small laptop launched in 2009 that has remained a niche product.

A spokeswoman for Nokia said: "The remarks were taken out of context. A simple example was taken to mean more than intended. Nokia do not comment on speculation or rumours and at the moment we are all concentrating on the Lumia 800 which went on sale this week."

The Nokia chief executive spoke positively about Windows 8 at the Lumia launch last month, saying: "The user experience of Windows 8 is essentially a supercharged version of the Nokia Lumia experience that you saw on stage today.

"And you see the parallels and opportunity for commonality from a user perspective. You say wow, this is more than just smartphones, there's a broader opportunity here. And clearly we see that broader opportunity as well, without specifically commenting on what that may mean in the future."

And the boasts and functions are second to none. Although almost of the android tablets away there in the past have applied slower processors, and allowed a hope for accelerate from owners, the Apad A8 really uses a earlier, and much quicker 1Ghz CPU and it creates the feel smooth and quick, something you would anticipate from a tablet that was 3 periods the cost Update android market.

So how does it comparability with other tablet PCs away there? Good enquiry, and I will do my most beneficial to answer it. Accepting applied it for the last two weeks in Update android market, I am able to candidly tell it is a keeper, and one that I go back up to altogether the time – even although I have my iPad. Although everybody is completely approximately the iPad, there is no refusing that there’s in reality a quite big user base away there that merely will not purchase and Apple production, some as they do not have any office or boast that they basis, or established merely on the quite high cost. And that’s where completely of these Update android market are come in into play. The A8 Apad is a greater ending Android tablet, without the higher cost. It actually is approximately the same cost because a netbook, which will not break out the bank. It also allows admittance to the Android commercialize, which is very standardized to the App Store, exclude there appear to be a lot more stakes and coverings that are free, as contrary to paid up. A lot of the more beneficial iPad apps are likewise brought out on the Update android market, and so games like Angry hoots and other common apps are away there for the Apad too.
